Kaiser Fototechnik has just expanded its range of successful wired/wireless remote releases with the new Twin1 R4 models. Compared with the R3 releases, which are still available, the new releases feature a streamlined receiver module, thus improving the accessibility to the remaining camera ports.
Equipment setup and outstanding working range have remained unchanged. “Twins” are infrared wireless and wired releases in one unit. Each set comprises transmitter, receiver and an appropriate release cable.
The operating range with the separate receiver is up to 300 feet (100 m).
In addition the transmitter will work with almost any camera featuring an built-in infrared
receiver. The operating range will indeed drop to 150 or 75 ft. (50 or 25 m) depending on the
camera model, but the transmitter can eventually serve as an universal remote release for a
second camera.
The single large release button of the transmitter provides for error-free “blind” operation. An operation mode selector switches from coded signal to release the separate receiver to an universal signal to release a built-in IR receiver. More features are available subject to camera model and operation mode: half-shutter to activate TTL metering and AF setting before shooting, delay shot mode and bulb shot mode. The built-in LED indicator can also be used as a flashlight.
The rather compact receiver connects directly to the remote port of the camera. Two infrared sensors are positioned on both sides of the semitransparent housing of the receiver. The receiver for Nikon cameras, that is already available from Kaiser for quite a while, is an exception: it is extremely small, has only one IR sensor, but does not need an extra power supply.
The Twin remote releases of the R4 series are available for Nikon, Fuji, Canon, Pentax, Samsung, Sony, Minolta, Panasonic, Sigma and Leica cameras. A compatibility survey can be found on the Kaiser website.
